Overview

Translator Linear is a linear broadcast scheduling interface built by Intellitech Solutions for NBCUniversal and Versant — a unified, cloud-native platform managing the scheduling, translation, and distribution of 20+ linear television feeds across time zones. It replaced a fragmented, error-prone manual workflow with a real-time React + GraphQL interface running on AWS EKS.

Intellitech Solutions engineered Translator Linear, a web-based broadcast scheduling and control platform that powers the feed management operations for NBCUniversal's entertainment networks, including Bravo, E!, Golf, MSNBC, Syfy, and Universo.

Challenge

Traditional broadcast operations relied on fragmented systems and manual updates across multiple teams and regions. NBCUniversal needed a single, modern interface to:

  • Simplify feed scheduling and playback control
  • Support east/west time-zone coordination and rehearsal modes
  • Integrate seamlessly with existing broadcast and distribution systems
  • Enable near real-time visibility for network operations and programming teams

Reliability and scalability were critical — downtime could impact live broadcast continuity.

Solution

Intellitech Solutions designed and deployed Translator Linear, a React + TypeScript frontend with Vert.x reactive microservices, GraphQL APIs, and MongoDB data layer hosted on AWS EKS.

Key capabilities include:

  • Dynamic Scheduling Interface – An intuitive visual planner allows users to manage channel feeds, rehearsal slots, and live programming from a unified dashboard.
  • Multi-Network Integration – Each network (e.g., Bravo, Oxygen, USA, Universo) operates independently while sharing the same core infrastructure and permissions model.
  • Feed Automation – Scheduled events automatically update underlying broadcast systems through secure APIs, ensuring synchronization between cloud and on-premise control systems.
  • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) – Integrated with Azure AD OAuth for enterprise-grade authentication.
  • Scalable Architecture – Deployed as containerized services in AWS EKS, supporting automatic scaling during live event windows and special programming days.

Results

Unified Operations

Streamlined management of 20+ network feeds into a single interface

Reduced Manual Errors

Automation of time-based scheduling eliminated inconsistencies across east/west feeds

Real-Time Visibility

Network operations now view, edit, and confirm schedules instantly, with clear feed-state indicators

Improved Reliability

Microservice-based design enables maintenance and updates with zero downtime

Impact

Translator Linear has become the backbone of NBCUniversal's broadcast scheduling operations — trusted daily by programming teams to plan, rehearse, and deliver content across multiple time zones with unmatched reliability.

This solution demonstrates Intellitech Solutions' ability to bridge legacy broadcast workflows with modern cloud architecture, combining operational precision with an intuitive user experience.
